"My guess is this photo was taken in 1904 or 1905 at the home of Gustave Carl and Rachel (Wilson) Simmon (seated at the right). They did celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in Sherrard, Illinois on December 20, 1905 but I have a photo I know is from that event. In this photo are Charles Simmon, Rachel (Wilson) Simmon, Susan Bosold, Catherine (Simmon) Bosold, Hattie Merkland, John C. Bosold, Milas J and Elizabeth (Bosold) Tindall, Joseph F and Rebecca (Bridgford) Tindall, Henry Bridgford and many others I do not know. The 2 girls in the front row in the matching dresses are Annie Blanche Wilson and Kate Simmon Wilson."

This portrait of Peter and Catherine's nine children was taken on July 28, 1896 at the Vienna Photographic Studio in Rock Island, IL. The photographer was the studio's proprietor, Oscar Hakelier.
The photo was written about in the next day's edition of the Rock Island Argus. That clipping can be seen in this image gallery as well.

Rock Island Argus - 29 July 1896
This newspaper item from the July 29, 1896 Rock Island Argus describes the portrait of Peter and Catherine's nine children, which was taken the day before the item was published.

Gustave Carl "Charles" and Rachel (Wilson) Simmon
Charles was the fifth oldest child of Peter and Catherine. He married the oldest daughter of the Simmons' neighbor, Lewis Wilson. Lewis himself later married Charles' younger sister, Catherine, making her his mother-in-law as well as his little sister.
Charles and Rachel were married for over 50 years and had eight children and something like 15 grandchildren.
The portrait is credited to "Wright & Fullerton, Orion, Illinois," which was a pharmacy. The caption also says "child unknown," but I assume it's a grandchild.

Darling sisters with portraits and Peter's sword
This photo ran in the Rock Island Argus on June 27, 1976 as part of a write up on old Rock Island County settler families. These sisters were the daughters of Maria Simmon Darling, who was the daughter of Phillip Simmon, the eldest child of Peter and Catherine.
